“It can be in half an hour. The others are on their way,” Jack said from the other end of the line.

Trent rubbed the back of his neck. “All right. I’ll get him ready,” he muttered, and they ended the call. “Damn it,” Trent grumbled as he went upstairs.

Leo had told him that he didn’t want to go against the higher-ranked demons’ decision, so how would he defend himself? He needed to convince Leo to at least try. Trent didn’t want to lose him. Leo was a great guy who had been scarred and needed someone who could help him adapt to this new world. He’d even slept on the floor of his new bedroom on the first night. If another demon were to take Leo in, they wouldn’t understand.

Trent opened the door of Leo’s bedroom and turned the lights on. He closed the door quietly behind him before he approached the bed. Leo slept soundly, wheezing slightly from him being sick.

Besides being rather handsome, Leo was also humble and hadn’t judged Trent for being a demon. Trent had been attracted to Leo in the beginning, regardless of Leo’s filthy state, and his long hair and beard. Soon after, Trent just couldn’t help but develop feelings for him, even though he shouldn’t have, whether Leo was his mate or not. Leo was too adorable in every way and Trent couldn’t resist. The human being his mate made him even harder to deny.

“Leo,” Trent said and sat on the edge of the bed. When he rested his hand on Leo’s head, Leo opened his eyes slowly. “The meeting will be in half an hour. It’ll take ten minutes to get there, so you need to get ready. I got you a couple of warm jackets, so you’ll be okay outside.”

Leo hummed and nodded, clearly tired. “Thanks, Trent.”

“I need to tell you something,” Trent started and Leo looked up at him. “You have to defend yourself in the meeting. If I tell you what to say, Jack will notice it immediately, so I can’t help you with this. Will you please tell them that you’ll be fine staying with me?”

After a moment of silence, Leo sat up and leaned on the headboard. “I’ll try. If they don’t want me to stay here, you can’t cause trouble, understood?”

Trent averted his eyes and nodded. He’d thought of not allowing anyone to take Leo. If Leo ended up upset because of that, it could make things worse. “I promise.” He watched as Leo got out of bed slowly, taking the red blanket that was on top of the bedspread. “Do you want something to eat before we go?” he asked. Leo shook his head with his back facing Trent. Would Trent have to see the same if Jack and the others decided that Leo had to leave?

Leo got changed lazily. It was obvious that he needed to rest more. “Thanks for the clothes,” he mumbled.

After changing, Leo walked over to the bed.
